Foreign Policy Blogs

Welcome to the African Union blog

au_hs_coverGreetings and welcome to the African Union blog.  This blog is being launched in coordination with the publication of the latest of FPA’s Headline Series, backgrounders produced for more than half a century.  “The Quest for African Unity: 50 Years of Independence and Interdependence,” offers a short history of Pan-Africanism and the Organization of African Unity (OAU), as well as a rare,  in-depth look at the African Union.

The monograph, available for order here, examines efforts towards greater unity among African nations over the past decade, with a special focus on governance and democracy building, social and economic development, peace and security issues and Africa’s destiny on the world stage.

The purpose of this blog is to continue the conversation online.  We’ll follow issues that impact the whole of Africa by keeping a close eye on African Union developments at its headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  We also hope to point our readers to the other excellent Africa coverage provided by the Africa, Southern Africa and North Africa blogs on the FPB network.
