About the Author

Cassandra Clifford is the Founder and Executive Director of Bridge to Freedom Foundation, which works to enhance and improve the services and opportunities available to survivors of modern slavery.  The organization is focused on moving “from surviving to thriving”, for which they seek to empower survivors through the Division of Research and Evidence-Based Programming and Personal and Professional Development Programs.

As a non-profit freelancer and writer, and activist Cassandra’s main objective is to bring awareness to, and combat modern day slavery in all forms, especially with children. She holds an M.A., International Relations from Dublin City University in Ireland, as well as a B.A., Marketing from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island.  Additionally Cassandra has a degree in Fashion.

As an established human rights writer Cassandra has written for the Foreign Policy Association, as the Children’s Rights Blogger/Writer since 2007. Cassandra’s other publications include: Rape as a Weapon of War: The Long Term Effects on Victims and Society; numerous articles in the Examiner, as the DC Human Rights Examiner; has served as a freelance writer and editor for NAFSA: The Association of International Educators; and she has a chapter, ‘Slavery Is Different Today Versus Yesterday’, in the 2009 edition of At Issue: Slavery Today, a text designed for middle and high school students.  Cassandra has also begun to publish for the International Security Network (ISN)’s editorial service, ISN Insights, on modern slavery issues.

Cassandra has conducted academic research in the areas of Ethnic Cleansing and Genocide in the Former Soviet Union, Nuclear Arms Reduction, Cause’s of War in Yugoslavia, Nationalism, and other various Slavic centered topics. Cassandra has been active in human rights since she was in high school. She has previously worked in both the corporate and charity sector for various industries and causes, including; Child Trafficking, Learning Disabilities, Publishing, Marketing, Public Relations, and Fashion. Currently Cassandra is conducting independent research on the use of rape as a weapon of war, as well as America’s Pimp Culture and its Impact on Modern Slavery.  In addition to her many purists Cassandra is also working to develop a series of children’s books.

Cassandra, who is originally from the Greater Kansas City, Missouri area, has lived in Birmingham, England; Dublin, Ireland; New York, NY; Providence, Rhode Island and has spent significant amounts of time in Germany and Russia. Traveling is a passion that has led Cassandra to many cities and countries, much of her travels have consisted of Eastern and Central Europe. Cassandra currently resides in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
