Two members of the Macedonian parliament were charged with war crimes related to the country's brief 2001 civil war between ethnic Macedonians and ethnic Albanians. The cases could destabilize the country, as Balkan Insight reports a significant number of ethnic Albanian politicians will be charged. Indeed, the leader of the largest Albanian party, the Democratic Union for Integration – a member of the parliamentary governing coalition – was the commander in chief of the Albanian guerilla National Liberation Army in 2001.
