Being a mother is undoubtedly the hardest job in the world, and many are handed additional burdens as the struggle to provide and care for their children in the face of conflict, poverty and natural disasters. Motherhood comes with both joy and heartache, mothers are those who give us life, protect our lives and sacrifice their lives. It is for all of the mother’s today that that we give thanks, however let us give special consideration to those who undauntedly care and provide for their children in the face of countless hardships.
On another note I came across this article, which looks at women’s health experts Mother’s Day wish list, looking at experts on women’s health and the contribution of simple improvements and technologies which improve the lives of women in the developing world — from misoprostol, a pill that prevents postpartum hemorrhaging, to education and food-aid counseling pilot programs. Efforts to promote Caesarean deliveries are designed to diminish the dangers associated with childbirth, while a call to perform research about the underexamined effects of antiviral and antibiotic medications on pregnant women seeks to enhance gestational safety. These and other simple solutions, as well as increased access and education, not only aid int the livelihood and development of populations, but can quite literally be the difference between life and death for mothers and children.
