Gobbling Up The World

15148

Israel is still contemplating restarting peace negotiations with Syria. The Obama administration just reversed a Bush administration position and sent an ambassador to Damascus. Syria continues to fuel turmoil in Lebanon and function as an ally for Iran. Syria also continues to support terror and permit conventional weapons proliferation and attempted -unsuccessfully thanks to an Israeli airstrike- to launch a nuclear program.

Separately, Turkey has been repeatedly criticized for anti-Semitic and anti-Israel media depictions. Turkey, though, is still considered one of Israel’s closest allies in the region, albeit the relationship has been a bit tense of late.

Well, Turkey (an ally) and Syria (a nemesis) have a bit more in common. And that is nothing new, no surprise, and not limited to merely Turkey and Syria and actually spreads throughout the Middle East and Europe.

And that commonality is entrenched anti-Semitism clearly depicted by the Syrian cartoon above where a Jew (not an Israeli) is seen gobbling up the world stopped only by a gun wrapped in Palestinian flag, signalling resistance. Even worse than anti-Semitism, this cartoon encourages armed resistance to halt the Jews.

The peace process may be all but dead, but a third intifada has still yet to erupt and speculation is swirling on what could erupt that powder keg.

Anti-Semitism throughout the region- Nothing new and not surprising, but always worth noting.
