The BBC is debating the merits of whether Israel is getting a free pass from the United States and the world regarding its nuclear program. You know my thoughts from yesterday’s post, but others seem to disagree. Read the discussion here and feel free to defend (or, if you must, refute) your Israel blogger’s position.
Separately, an interesting story from Ma’ariv is surfacing that the U.S. State Department has been rejecting Israeli visa applications for workers at the Dimona nuclear facility. Scientists at the facility have for decades took seminars and studied in the United States, but all that seems to be coming to a close. The U.S. government, which has not supplied materials for the Dimona facility, has apparently instituted this new policy to refuse visa applications and prevent these scientists from studying in the United States. The State Department is reportedly not commenting and Israeli officials are complaining about this.
Both these issues, Israel and the NPT and the visa denials, will assuredly arise next week in Washington D.C. at the White House’s nuclear summit with world leaders.
