Meeting Between Fatah and Hamas

Two ministers from the rival groups of Hamas and Fatah met today in Gaza. Some of the points discussed included the persecution of Fatah and Hamas leader in the opposite group’s territories, as well as creating a supervisory police force for the upcoming elections. It is likely that the two opposing parties have moved because of the efforts of others in the region to reconcile them.

Its interesting to note that outwardly the two groups have very opposite ideologies and goals. Fatah has lately been advocating non-violent resistance to Israel’s rule of the west bank while Hamas has always believed that violence will achieve its goals. In addition, Hamas has always professed its final goal as the occupation of the entire Israel and Palestinian territories under Islamic Rule, while Fatah has been more pragmatic in its demands for a Palestinian State along side the Jewish State of Israel.
