Last week, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced the winners of the annual World Food Prize. For the first time in its history, the Prize, given each year by The World Food Prize Foundation, will be awarded to the heads of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that fight hunger. The winners are David Beckmann, president of Bread for the World, and Jo Luck, president of Heifer International.
During the ceremony announcing the winners, Secretary Clinton reviewed the priorities set by the Obama administration and her office to fight hunger, including the Feed the Future initiative. A new research center for the initiative will be named for Norman Borlaug, who created the World Food Prize in 1986.
