In recent days there’s been a lot of chatter in the Arab world and around the Middle East about Iran as an agressor and general havoc-wreaker in the region.
Yesterday, Mahmoud Abbas accused Iran of stalling the peace process and using local Islamic Elements, i.e. Hamas, Islamic Jihad of accomplishing its goals.
Today, Saudi Prince Turki al-Faisal, said that Iran is on an “explosive path” pursuing its current course of nuclear enrichment. He explained that “everybody recognizes that they have not lived up to the requirements” of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Estimates for Iran making its first bomb have been pushed up. Currently most intelligence reports hint that Iran could already have a nuclear bomb if it chose to make one. A large amount of uranium has been enriched to 20% and very easily can be enriched to 90% for military use.
Most of Iran’s neighbors are apprehensive about the Persians obtaining a nuclear bomb. They believe that they will not be safe from constant bullying if such an event would come to pass. Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan are all not happy with Iran’s obfuscating and stalling but most likely believe that they are powerless to stop Iran’s nuclear ambitions, since sanctions and sabotage do not seem to be working.
