Charles Andrianasoavina, a colonel with the Madagascan military, announced on Wednesday that he and a group of dissident top-ranking officers have taken over the Indian Ocean island nation of Madagascar. Other military officers reportedly vow to fight back the mutiny.
The announcement comes in the midst of voting on a new constitution that calls for keeping President Andry Rajoelina, who Colonel Charles Andrianasoavina backed when he grabbed power last March, in power indefinitely.
