D-Day Remembered

On this anniversary of the D-Day invasion that set the allies on course to victory in WWII I wanted to write a few words to commemorate the day but this day is now almost over and my draft is rather meager. After all, so many words have already been written about D-Day, what can I add to our shared understanding of that momentous event? The event was so incredible, so truly epic in scale, I’m not sure there are words. If you’ve watched that opening scene in “Saving Private Ryan” then you’ve witnessed the best depiction of D-Day on film that there will probably ever be. Still, it helps sometimes to step back from the epic scale and bring things down to the individual level, which is why I particularly liked this video report from CBS News that offers a first-hand account of that day from an American soldier:
