Solar New York

The Big Apple should not have to wait any longer: It’s time to become a center of renewable energy. We’re not talking about big solar and wind arrays as we’re going to see in the Sahara – although that’s a good thing too – but rather about distributed generation: making power where you live and work. The NYC Solar Map is live. It’s a project of the NYC Solar America City Partnership, led by Sustainable CUNY (City University of New York). The video, courtesy of Reuters, contains an interview with Sean Ahearn, a professor at Hunter College, a CUNY campus. Ahearn describes the project and how it can substantially enable the building of solar here in Gotham.

This article, from Renewable Energy World, describes the project and some of the pricing involved. Bottom line? Very competitive.

The stars are aligning for distributed renewable energy, in particular the most important star of all, certainly for our purposes on Gaia – our sun.
