As complex as the situation is in Zimbabwe, we do know that there will be a runoff election. President Robert Mugabe has accepted the results and is preparing for the runoff. His opponent, Morgan Tsvangirai, however, appears to maintain his view that a runoff is invalid and that he won the count outright. He may be right on the merits, but as I have argued recently, it is essential that he not simply abdicate continued participation in the process. At this stage of the game, he must play the election out to its logical conclusion, even if the final result is perfidy on the part of the ZANU-PF supporters of Mugabe.
