Syria will pay, if Hizballah attacks Israel

Avigdor Lieberman, a far-right Knesset member, threatened to destroy the Syrian capitol, Damascus, if Hezbollah attacks Israel in revenge for the assassination of its top military commander, Imad Mugniyah, on February 13, 2008.

We must negotiate with Syria only over security arrangements in Lebanon, not the Golan Heights, Lieberman said while meeting with Russian Jewish immigrants in the American state of New Jersey.

I doubt that Israel would do something to break the partnership established with Assad's regime. But Lieberman got it right. Lebanon is a hostage [that developed the Stockholm syndrome] always paying the price for Palestinian, Hizballah etc adventurism. Cut the head off the snake, and the body dies.

As for Imad Mugnyeh, I don't think Hizballah will act at the border. Most likely the act of “revenge” will be perpetrated by the Palestinians or by a [sleeper] cell outside the region. There is no way to know when they’ll strike. Surely, they don't lack patience.
