Happy Veterans Day

2007 Paralyzed Veterans of America's, fourth annual National Veterans Day Poster and Essay Contest Today we honor our country's veterans, for it was in 1918, at the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, that the fighting ceased in World War I with the German signing of the Armistice.

Initially the day was known as Armistice Day, for which it remains known in many European countries. Armistice Day became an official holiday in the United States in 1926. It was dedicated as a national holiday twelve years later, and then on June 1, 1954, the name was officially changed to Veterans Day in order to honor all U.S. veterans. The day is set to honor both those veterans living and dead, who have sacrificed in the name of the United States and the globe, as it continuously celebrated by many allied nations, and is also referred to as Remembrance Day and Poppy Day.

Thank a Veterans today!
