Earth Day…Growing Green Kids

Earth Day...Growing Green Kids Today, April 22nd, marks Earth Day 2009, the day also launches The Green Generation Campaign, for which is based on three main points;

  • A carbon-free future based on renewable energy that will end our common dependency on fossil fuels, including coal.
  • An individual’s commitment to responsible, sustainable consumption.
  • Creation of a new green economy that lifts people out of poverty by creating millions of quality green jobs and transforms the global education system into a green one.

So how do you teach your kids to grow into ‘greenies’?  Kids are actually learning to go green faster than their parents, and in many instances, it is the kids who are teaching the parents to go green.  As seen last years Earth Day Post, Children Say We’re Failing Them and The Planet, it is the children that are demanding that we go green more.  However regardless of chidlren’s encouragement and pressure, it is up to us to lead the way and show that we will not take no for an answer.

A few good resource sites I found were; The Green Guide for Kids, Go Green with your Kids at iVillage, Teach Your Kids To Go Green, How to teach your children to be earth-friendly, Teaching Kids to Go Green : TreeHugger, Teach Kids about Earth Day: 10 Ways to Teach Recycling to Children, Teach Your Kids Three Fun Ways to Go Green – Associated Content, Teach a Preschooler to Go GreenTeach a Child How To Recycle
