Learn From Swat!

Pakistan Army has said that the operation against the Taliban could take months. In other words, finally, the army has understood the nature of the fight against the nut jobs. Not only is the country and the world ready to support the offensive against the Taliban for months, but it seems obvious that the entire world has been solidly supporting Pakistan’s efforts to root out the terrorists.

There are couples of factors that must be considered while this operation is going on. First, what can the country do to prevent these nihilists from coming back retaking some other parts of the country? It is critically important for Pakistan to make sure that the Taliban, or for that matter any other organization or group that is capable of forcefully taking over any part of the country must not be allowed to dictate any terms on any particular region and that the country remains a free country where people have options.

The lesson of Swat is very simple and it can be stated in a old, but very good saying;” a problem ignored is a crisis insured.” So, next time, whenever there is a threat, especially from those who are carrying weapons, the government of Pakistan has to react decisively and quickly, period.

The operation will continue and I will keep you posted about it. Below, please see what some of the Pakistani press is reporting today.

He is also fascinated by the relationship between Pakistan, the country of his birth, and the United States of America, his adopted homeland. Therefore, he makes every effort to read major newspapers in Pakistan and what is being said about Washington, while staying fully alert to the analysis and the news being reported in the American press about Pakistan. After finishing graduate school, he started using his free time to write to various papers in Pakistan in an effort to clarify whatever misconceptions he noticed in the press, especially about the United States. This pastime became a passion after his letters were published in Vanity Fair and The New Yorker and his writing became more frequent and longer. Now, he is here, writing a blog about Pakistan managed by Foreign Policy Association.
