FDA Commissioner receives FPA Medal

Dr. Margaret Hamburg, Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, was awarded the Foreign Policy Association medal at the organization’s Fall Dinner on November 18th.  Watch the video of Dr. Hamburg’s remarks.  A partial transcript can be found below:

And so, as I take on my new role as Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, I certainly do have a very international vision because, as you all well know, we live in a global world.  Today, products regulated by the FDA or component parts of those products, come from every corner of the world. We can no longer believe that we can address our responsibilities for protecting the health of the American public by focusing mainly on domestic concerns, and dealing with imports through limited border inspections of what comes in.
