ONE Data Report – Key Findings

The spotlight is on Africa as South Africa gears up for the launch of the continent’s first World Cup, opening June 11th.  To shed some of that light on global health, a few reports have been released this week highlighting the progress and challenges of African social and economic development.  The Africa Progress Panel, chaired by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, has released the Africa Progress Report  Too busy to read the report?  Try the animated video instead: Two Continents

And ONE has released the ONE Data Report 2010, which monitors the G8’s progress against the promises made in Gleneagles, where developed countries made financial pledges to help Africa meet the Millennium Development Goals.  The verdict?  Collectively, countries have contributed 61% of the promised aid, or $17.1 billion by the end of 2010.  At the same time, 100% of debt has been cancelled for qualified countries.  See the summary chart to the left.
