Following the First Battalion, 87th Infantry

Just a couple items and recommendations:

First, I highly recommend checking out this the first part of the New York Times coverage of the deployment of the First Battalion, 87th Infantry. The Times will follow this battalion for the next year as they head to the increasingly restive provinces of Kunduz and Baghlan in Afghanistan’s north. Secondly, make sure to go to FPA’s Rising Powers blog to read Roger Scher’s analysis of the Gen. McChrystal ouster and Petraeus return. Scher tackles when campaign rhetoric affects actual foreign policy and the hypocrisy of President Obama’s relationship with considering their treatment of Gen. Petraeus in 2006.

Lastly, I’ll leave you with a sadly too close to the truth political cartoon about the job Mr. Petraeus has awaiting him:
