Vacation Reading for the 4th!

I’ll be headed out on a two week vacation tomorrow and will likely not be posting during that period. Don’t cry, Tahera will still be here and I’m not leaving you empty handed. Look down. • ‘Why West Lost Afghan War‘ by Michael Scheuer in The Diplomat – The always provocative form CIA Al Qaeda expert Scheuer dissects how the US and NATO have failed in Afghanistan.
• ‘Bad Attitudes Land Afghan Women in Jail‘ by Sylvie Stein in Foreign Policy – Stein helps bring to light some of the preposterous reasons that have put Afghan women in prison. Apparently, about half of the incarcerated women in Afghanistan are accused of “moral crimes,” a new category of infractions.
• ‘All Silent On the Lefty Front‘ by Michael A. Cohen in The New Republic – Cohen poignantly lays out why many on the American liberal left have not protested against the American war in Afghanistan. This piece, along with many reactions to it, will be the basis for a future post on this important topic.
