An Introduction to "Power Politics: National Security Strategy in the 21st Century"

You’ve found your way Foreign Policy Association’s newest blog; and welcome!

Power politics can be defined as the state of international relations in which sovereign states leverage tools of national power – political, military and economic – to affect international outcomes in ways which further the national interest.

Specifically, the blog will examine the application of hard power in the international arena, focusing predominantly on the intersection of national-level politics and the use of force.  Moreover, this blog will tend to fixate on the concept of *power*, attempting to quantify the intangible qualities of geopolitical strategy.

The objective of this blog, therefore unsurprisingly, will be one solidly grounded in the Realism school of international relations.  It is my hope that this new entry to the FPA blogs will add a fresh, or perhaps more “classical”, perspective to our collective views on foreign policy.
