How Prop 19 Would Affect Mexico

Tomorrow voters in California will decide whether or not to approve Proposition 19, legalizing marijuana in the state. The Atlantic magazine just published a transcript in which they ask five Mexico experts what they think the result might be on Mexico. Initially, the respondents’ opine on the parallel between Colombia and Mexico. Robert Bonner, former Administrator of the DEA, makes a good point that extradition to the U.S. was a tactic successfully used in Colombia that is being replicated in Mexico. On most questions the panel takes widely different views, but, overall, they provide a more careful look at problems in Mexico than what is commonly reported.
