I’m very happy that I’ve got a two-part article, starting today, in DeSmogBlog, the prestigious environmental blog, voted Canada’s “Best Group Blog.”
I’m looking once again at the Canadian tar sands, from the point of view of energy security this time. It turns out that American security is diminished by the use of tar sands oil. Two reasons: first, it’s oil and our addiction here to that fool’s gold that empowers interests that may not wish us entirely well – not our Canadian neighbors, certainly, but others. Second reason: that its use exacerbates climate change.
Tomorrow’s second part looks at the several reasons why further enabling our addiction by the construction of a new pipeline may not be such a good idea.
