Honoring the true spirit of Memorial Day

Honoring the true spirit of Memorial Day Today many people find themselves saying; “Happy Memorial Day” as they visit with family and friends in the newly found summer sun, for the first BBQ’s and pool parties of the year, yet Memorial Day is not a day of celebration, but that of a day of remembrance for all U.S. Service Members who died while in military service to their country.  Therefore as you join your families and friends today for your beginning of summer BBQ’s, outings and celebrations, don’t forget the true meaning of Memorial Day all of those who have and continue to serve this country and protect our freedoms. Forget not to take a moment of silence in your day for all of those who have fallen in service to their country and the families they have left behind.  Take a special moment today to remember all the children who have been rendered motherless or fatherless, for all the children who will one day stand in honor and continue to fight for freedom for the next generations children.  However today while we honor the memory and lives of all who have fallen in service to our great nation and who fell in the fight for freedom, let us also forget also not the children for which so many have died for. Those children for whom freedom has been fought for around the world, those who have been leftHonoring the true spirit of Memorial Day orphaned by the violence of hate and war. Remember the children in America and across the globe, remember the fight for freedom and peace is the fight for the future.

Cassandra Clifford is the Founder and Executive Director of Bridge to Freedom Foundation, which works to enhance and improve the services and opportunities available to survivors of modern slavery. She holds an M.A., International Relations from Dublin City University in Ireland, as well as a B.A., Marketing and A.S., Fashion Merchandise/Marketing from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island.
