World Food Day 2011 focus: From Crisis to Stability

World Food Day 2011 will be commemorated on Sunday, October 16th, starting two weeks of programs and events focusing attention on the effect that volatile swings in food prices are affecting the poor.

World Food Day was originally started to celebrate the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)  and has since been used as an opportunity for the UN community to focus its agenda on an aspect of food security.  The theme for World Food Day 2011 is “Food Prices: From Crisis to Stability.”

The Global Food Security blog will cover the World Food Day events.  For starters, read FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf’s message addressing the theme of World Food Day 2011.
