The United Nation’s most recent report on progress on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) shows that Pakistan’s food security has declined in the last four years.

“The report expressed fears that Pakistan was lagging behind the target of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger and indicators show that the target would not be achieved by 2015, the deadline for achieving MDGs”,  according to The Dawn.

Additionally, The Dawn reports that the UN recognizes several factors which are hampering Pakistan’s ability to meet the MDGs on time, including high inflation, sluggish economic growth, and unemployment.  Ongoing problems with income inequality, gender inequality, and sections of the country that are not properly developed raise additional concerns about Pakistan’s ability to stay on course for the 2015 deadline.
